Argentina
Argentina: Christmas
2006 “For a child’s smile, we can at
least do that”.
Few weeks before
Christmas, we wanted to meet a small
association at Mendoza, where we
planned to be for Christmas. We
finally found “Tierra de Ninos”
which deals with teenagers and young
children with economic and social
issues.
We have met Tierra de
Ninos the 21st of
December 2006 to know a bit more
about them. They have a house in
Las Heras, in the suburb of Mendoza
(where the children who need help
are). They offer to these children
activities such as music, craft, a
radio programme… We had a meeting
with all the members who explained
their work. 3 of the educators work
directly on the street to meet the
teenagers and talk to them to
persuade them to come to the
association to help them get out the
street.

One of the big
projects is to create a radio
programme on a local radio. This
will help the teenagers to develop
the communication with other and
then be accepted in the society. It
will be easier to find a job for
them with them can communicate
normally with others. And, it is
something that interests these
children. They had the material for
the radio but it has been stolen.
This project cost 2000 euros. The
association works with the council
and hopes some help to re-create
this project.
Thanks to
Jean-Claude and Gaby Poudret and the
tombola organised by Alexandre, Ame
Sud gave 100 euros to Tierra de
Ninos for their radio project. We
also offered to the children an
afternoon to the cinema to see
“happy feet, the penguin”. For some
children it was their first time to
the mall and to the cinema! It was
very nice to see them smiling and
enjoying their Christmas.
David and Laure spent
two days with Tierra de Ninos and
were very pleased to share this
moment with the children.
